$520,220 request for Sperryville’s sewer was one of only 28 applications approved statewide in the second block grant funding cycle and the lone application approved from the Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District. The towns of Culpeper, Madison and Gordonsville and Orange County all were unsuccessful.
Of the 250 Virginia localities eligible to apply, 118 tried for a share of the $16,020,900 federal pot divided up by the state. The block grant program is administered by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development and is designed to boost projects which serve low and moderate income populations.
