Foxfield Fall Races

On Saturday, October 1, 'chasing moves to Foxfield for the sixth annual fall races at Charlottesville. The Foxfield course is well maintained and a delightful place for spectators.

Six races will be run at Foxfield, one flat, one timber and four over hurdles, for a total of $32,000 in purses. Racing starts at 2 p.m.

Featured event will be the fourth race, the $15,000 added American Grand National. This two and a quarter mile race over hurdles, more than 100 years old, is one of the oldest steeplechases in the country.

To get to Foxfield, take Route 29 South to Charlottesville. At the Bypass (Route 250), go right and take the first exit onto Barracks Road. Go west about four miles on this road, which becomes Garth Road after two and a half miles. The race course is on the left.

Middleburg Races

The Virginia Fall Races will be held Saturday, October 8, and Sunday, October 9, at Glenwood Park, near Middleburg. A total of 12 races is expected to be filled over the two-day meet, and $30,000 in purses will be awarded, /i^tj net proceeds are donated to Loudoun Memorial Hospital.

There will be three hurdle races of between two and two and a half miles, one flat race and a timber race on both days. The conditions for the races offer an event for almost all types of steeplechasers, from three-year-old maidens—to five-year-olds and up, which have never won a race over timber. Post time is 2 p.m. both days.

In addition to the racing, there will be a small country fair put on by the Unison Methodist Church where handmade crafts and baked goods will be on sale.
