The 1983 State Fair of Virginia will mark the statewide kick-off of the "We Have It Made In Virginia" campaign, the official theme of the fair this year. The campaign seeks to promote Virginia-made and Virginiagrown products.
This state fair is the 137th for Richmond. Part of its purpose is to continue the concept of agricultural fairs and show as they were transplanted to the American colonies from Europe, where market fairs brought buyers and sellers together for centuries.
Competition at the fair will be held in 49 organized departments. Prizes will be awarded for agricultural products and livestock. The 22nd annual Virginia State 4-H Horse Show will also be featured, with 10 performances over a period of four days.
