To get to Glenwood Park, take Route 50 to Middleburg. At the flashing amber light in the middle of Middleburg, head north towards Foxcroft School. Glenwood Park is approximately a mile up the road on the right. Two stone pillars on either side of the entrance are landmarks.
Morven Park Races
Following the Middleburg races, 'chasing moves to neighboring Leesburg October 15 for the fourth annual Morven Park Races.
Six races will be run, four over brush fences, one over timber and one on the flat, for a total of $22,500 in purses. Post time is 2 p.m.
Several sponsors will be contributing to the purses at Morven Park this year. The feature race, at two and a half miles over brush, has a $10,000 purse and is being sponsored by the Maryland National Bank.
Another sponsor for the races is Dowty, a British aerospace manufacturer which will be sponsoring the S.H. Rogers Fred Sr. Remembrance Race.
Tickets for the Morven Park Races are $3 at the gate. To get to the races, take Route 15 to Leesburg. The entrance to Morven Park is on Route 15 North of Leesburg just after the intersection of Route 15 and Business Route 15 at the first left. Further information is available at 703-777-2414.
Montpelier Hunt Races
The last steeplechase meet of the fall in Virginia is Saturday, November 5, at Montpelier, the beautiful estate of the late matriarch of steeplechasing Mrs. Marion duPont Scott.
Post time is 1:30 p.m., and there will be five races, two over brush, two over hurdles and one on the flat. The feature race is the $5,000 added Noel Laing Steeplechase Handicap, at two and a half miles over brush.
Montpelier was left to Mrs. Scott when her father, who purchased the estate in 1900, died in 1928. During her lifetime Mrs. Scott accomplished a great deal, especially in the world of steeplechasing.
