The sounds of Duke Ellington and the lyrics of his songs evoked a range of emotion and sentiment. He truly was a genius and his feelings about life and society and music poured out of his songs with "heart and soul." An example is the song "Solitude," sung by the talented Dee Dee Bridgewater perched atop the high staircase in the background, while Janet Hubert embellished the lyrics with a combination balletmodern dance routine.
