At long, long, longer last, it looks like the village of Sperryville will get a sewer system, Virginia’s number five health hazard will be cleaned up and trout may swim again in the Thornton River.
In the race for the block grant gold, Sperryville came up a winner last week as Governor Charles Robb announced the award of $520,110 to Rappahannock for the village’s long delayed sewer project. The governor’s letter, to supervisor Chairman J.R. Latham dated September 14, announced that Sperryville’s sewer application was "rated high enough for the Department of Housing and Community Development to begin grant negotiations. When the Department’s negotiations and reviews confirm the contents of your application, a grant contract will be prepared.”
Combined with $1.4 million from the Environmental Protection Agency already earmarked for Sperryville by the State Water Control Board, the block grant money will bring the cost of
