land are severely limited because a map designed and prepared for another purpose is the basis of our flood plain zone, and not because there is any real threat of flooding.
The proposal was an attempt to alleviate a real hardship on many people of limited means throughout the county who cannot afford to hire a lawyer to challenge the obvious lack of a rational basis for the present flood plain map. It was disappointing that instead of encouraging a meaningful discussion of the problem. The Rappahannock News chose to question the integrity of Rappahannock “old timers," to attack the proposal as “deceptive" and to imply that 1 have less than adequate concern for the problems caused by building in flood plains.
I invite all of your readers who have an interest in this issue to attend the public hearings and to participate in the discussion which I hope will result in a logical solution to a very real problem for many people in Rappahannock County.
