My recent proposal was made as a starting point for a renewed discussion in an attempt to find a reasonable solution to the flood plain problem. I specifically mentioned to the board of supervisors on September 7. 1983 that the 50-year period was only a suggestion and that it might have to be lengthened. Unlike the big cities, Rappahannock County does not have any accurate hydrological records and very few landmarks by which the flood level of a "hundredyear-storm” could be determined. In fact, some supervisors expressed concern that it would be difficult to find persons who could accurately remember back even 50 years as to whether a specific property flooded or not.
