Beginning the fall film series for RAAC is Tender Mercies, Australian director Bruce Beresford’s first American film set in the sunbaked Texas plains. Robert Duvall stars as MacSledge, a once great country and western singer whose life had gone awry. When a young widow takes him in, he finds a little of himself. Rated PG, Saturday, at 8:00 and Sunday at 7:00.

Refunders Club To Meet

Rappahannock Refunders Club will meet on Tuesday, October 3, at 10 a.m. at Creations Christian Bookstore in Washington.

All thrifty shoppers who use manufacturers coupons at the grocery store and/or take advantage of refund offers are invited to attend this coupon and forms swap meeting. “Those unable to attend the meeting may come by any day to swap coupons at the store,” said Becky Burke, manager of Creations,.

Register To Vote

General Registrar Ruth Kilby will be at the Farmers and Merchants National Bank in Flint Hill this Friday, September 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. and at the Rappahannock County Library in Washington on Monday, September 26, from 1 to 4 p.m. to register voters.

In addition, the registrar’s office at the court house in Washington is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 to 4:30. the last day to registrer to vote in the November elections will be Saturday, October 8. The registrar’s office will be open special hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., that day.

All that is necessary for registration is a social security number.

Voices of Rappahannock

The second in a series of lectures commemorating Rappahannock County’s 150th birthday takes place tomorrow at 7:30 at the Gay Street theater.

“The Transformation of Agriculture” is part of a five part lecture series sponsored by RAAC. Admission is free.
