“Rappahannock County is going to face tough challenges over the next four years. The commonwealth’s attorney is going to play an important role in meeting those challenges,” said David Konick, Luke’s opponent.
The commonwealth’s attorney will have to develop a reputation for dealing swiftly and effectively with crime, he maintained, pledging to put an end to “unnecessary plea bargaining” and promising to have more jury trials.
The second challenge will be how to conserve the rural beauty and character of Rappahannock County, Konick continued. He said that the commonwealth’s attorney may be called upon to defend Rappahannock’s zoning ordinances in his dual role as county attorney, konick said he has worked closely with the planning commission and board of supervisors on zoning matters, knows and understands the provisions of both the existing and revised ordinance and understands the intent behind local zoning laws. That plus his experience as a special prosecutor, his experience in local courts, the State Supreme Court and federal court makes him the most effective advocate for the county in meeting those challenges, he maintained.
“I will enforce all of the state and county laws vigorously and effectively and fairly,” Konick concluded.
