Wakefield School will be honored in New York City next week by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association at the University’s November 7 awards presentation ceremony.
Wakefield’s literary magazine, the “Talisman” took first place in the 60th annual nation wide competition among secondary schools. In judging Wakefield’s magazine the best, Columbia officials said, “The high quality of academics at your school is evident on every page—the students’ interests, vocabulary, preception and fluency. That’s impressive.”
Faculty advisor Freeman Allen says the award “really is a significant one.” Wakefield has only produced its literary magazine for three years, he says “so to win a first place judging in this premiere national competition of high school publications is quite an honor.”
The English department submitted the 1983 edition in the literary/art division of the Columbia contest last summer. After the first nlace award was announced on October 14, headmaster William Lynn said, “The whole school community can
