Parts Of Drive
Portions of Skyline Drive will be closed to vehicles for certain night hours during the upcoming hunting season. Shenandoah National Park Superintendent Robert Jacobsen is taking this action due to the illegal hunting pressure which occurs along the Drive during hunting seasons.
From November 7 through January 5, the Skyline Drive between Front Royal and Thornton Gap, and between Swift Run Gap and Rockfish Gap, will be dosed daily between dusk and 8 a.m. The section ol tne Drive between Thornton Gap and Swift Run Gap will remain open 24 hours per day, weather permitting.
Jacobsen said, “By closing portions of the Drive, rangers will be able to concentrate patrols on problem areas and increase hunter contacts along the Park boundary. This year rangers from Richmond and Petersburg National Battlefields will be temporarily assigned to hunting patrols in the Park. These additional rangers will allow us to cover more territory and respond more quickly to tips ’ and complaints.”
Jacobsen asked citizens to call Park Headquarters (703/999-2227), collect, immediately, if they observe any illegal hunting activities along the Park boundary. ”
