“The major issue in the 1984 Virginia General Assembly? Obviously, the budget is the top one," Del. Raymond R. “Andy” Guest said in a telephone interview this week.
The Front Royal farmer and businessman, a 12-vear veteran of the General Assembly, is running unopposed in next Tuesday’s election for the seat from the 21st legislative district which includes Rappahannock County.
“With the improving economic picture, 1 don’t foresee a need for any new taxes,” said Guest. Neither does he expect any further reductions in appropriations for social service programs.
“With the economy picking up and continuing to expand, the money will be coming in at higher levels than appropriations’ projections." he predicted. "Right now, I don’t expect any further cuts (in state programs)."
