Planting Time: Fall is best. Prepare your soil now so it will be ready when your bulbs arrive. Bulbs should Ik* planted immediately as they generally do not store at all well. Make sure the bulbs have not dried out in shipment or while in the nursery shelves. Remove badly bruised scales and dried roots and dust with fungicide before planting. Do not remove healthy roots but carefully spread out and cover with soil when planting.
Site Selections: No lily prospers without some sun. However, some will grow in partial shade provided by light changing shadows of deciduous trees. The shade of buildings or evergreens will usually be too much. Many of the pink, red, and orange varieties keep thencolors better if they receive a little protection from the mid-day sun.
A key to success with lilies is a site with good drainage. Water should never stand around their roots. Good ventilation is another important considerat ion when choosing a site - where air can move freely around lilies, but not where wind damage may occur.
