In my mind, if not necessarily in Mr. Konick’s, honesty and integrity are precisely at issue whenever citizens place their trust in a public official. Admittedly, local elections in a small community like ours are to a certain extent popularity contests. But for important county positions where the scope of the public’s trust includes responsibility for criminal prosecutions or, for that matter the enforcement of local zoning ordinances, common sense demands an examination of issues beyond a candidate’s mere popularity. We’re not chosing a local carnival queen here.
