Charles K. Estes, appointed

sheriff in 1961, “took time from his duties long enough last week to be elected to this office by a large majority vote.” Estes received 638 votes compared to 156 for Independent candidate Lester W. Deal.

New officers were elected at the fall county 4-H council meeting. Retiring president Carty Moffett presented the gavel to new president Donald Gale Williams as a symbol of tranferring of leadership to the new officers. Other officers pictured in the paper were: vice-president Tommy Williams, recreation leader Deborah Pullen, assistant county agent Arlis Frymer, devotion leader Jane Kilby, reporter Amy Palmer and assistant treasurer Charlotte Foster.
