At Antietam
Hoy Scout Troops 3(> and 123 from Flint Hill and Troop 123 from Washington ’ took part in the Shenrapawa District Fall Encampment on September 23-25 at the Antietam National Battlefield in Sharpsburg, . Maryland. 1 The units checked in and set up camp Friday evening. 1 Saturday each unit, traveling at their own pace, completed the Antietam Battlefield Historic Trail. The trail is a lOW mile hike across the historic Antietam Battlefield. The hike provided an opportunity for the scouts to become familiar with the location and descriptions of the fatiful events which occurred over the farmland around Sharpsburgon September 17, 1H62, the single bloodiest day of I fighting in American Military history.
The Fall Encampment campfire was held Saturday , evening. A program was presented on the subject of uniforms and camp life of a Civil War Soldier. Dressed in Union uniforms, Bill Sagle and Bob Robertson, two volunteers of the National Bark Service, presented the program.
