mice, nuthatches, finches, redpolls and pine siskins. For them, supply thistle, sunflower seeds, nutmeats or a commercial mix.
Trunk feeders need food, too. Woodpeckers and chicadees will appreciate suet cakes, peanut butter and the two mixed together. Put suet in a mesh bag and tack it to the tree.
Make sure your feeders are near tall shrubs or dense foliage or your cats will be the end beneficiaries of your bird-feeding efforts.
