Noting that he has received piles and piles of material on the proposed coal slurry pipeline, Guest joked that he’d already made up his mind and didn’t want to be confused by the facts.
“I’m opposed,” he stated, adding in a more serious vein that he still intends to closely examine the arguments on both sides of the issue. “But it takes a ton of water to move a ton of coal and any way you look at it, that’s inter-basin transfer. I do not want to set that precedent. Now if the transfer issue can be separated from the slurry pipeline, if the water could be pumped back to the source in a continual loop and then reused. . . Still, this is the same fine management team that brought us North Anna and Surry I and II.
“They would be the same ones running the pipe line and I have problems with that.”
