Persons who receive Social Security checks and also work should check their earnings for 1983, Bruce Hundley, Culpeper branch manager, advises.
Those who estimated that their 19811 earnings would not exceed the annual limits should make sure they have not earned more than they anticipated. The limit is $<>,(>00 for person 05-70 and $4,920 for persons under 05 all of 1983.
If the annual earnings exceed the limit, $1 in benefits is withheld for each $2 of earnings above the limit. Benefits that were incorrectly paid must be repaid, Mr. Hundley said.
If a person finds he is earning more or less than estimated, he should notify Social Security immediately so that benefits can be adjusted and an overpayment avoided.
