That’s the conclusion of the Rappahannock County Landfill Site Selection Committee. Appointed by the supervisors last October to assist j in finding a spot for solid waste disposal, the (v committee has searched The entire county” anch ’ considered 14 locations, according to chairman Hike Massie, who' turned in a report at Monday’s board meeting.
As recommended by a previous advisory group, the committee looked only at land available firom willing sellers and from that imperfect lot, determined that the 100-acre Stover tract off Route 639 near Amissville presents the best option.
The committee’s report notes that the Stover tract is The site with the most favorable rating.” The evaluation criteria, set out two years ago by a predecessor Solid Waste Management Committee, included:
• Topography — “The site should not be located in mountainous areas, rocky land or flood plains.”
• Watershed — “The site should not be situated near a major watercourse or a large body of standing water. Drinking water supplies should not be endangered.”
• Groundwater — “Depth to the water table should be great enough to prevent any possibility of contamination.”
