Evangelist hires reporter
WASHINGTON — The Rev. Pat Robertson has acknowledged in court depositions he hired a television reporter to interview a former congressman whc questioned the evangelist’s Korean War record.
The reporter was hired to interview former Rep. Paul McCloskey (R-Calif.) to gather information about a libel suit the television evangelist later filed against Rep. McCloskey, Mr. Robertson said.
Mr. Robertson, a possible candidate for the 1988 Republican presidential nomination, is suing Rep. McCloskey and Rep. Andrew Jacobs (D-Ind.) each for $35 million.
He accused the two of defaming him by circulating a letter in which Rep. McCloskey says Mr. Robertson
