There is no evidence that the additions to the diet such as wheat germ, wheat germ oil, lecithin, bee pollen, gelatin, salts of aspartic add, or sunflower seeds have any unique properties or improve athletic performance.
The biggest difference between foods of athletes and non-athletes is extra calories required for energy.
The more vigorous the exercise, the more food energy is needed. Foods high in carbohydrates, such as whole grain breads and cereals, are especially good energy sources.
Following are two recipes:
Whole wheat bread
2 pkgs. yeast
2Vi cups non-fat milk
1/2 cup apple juice
3 cups whole wheat flour
3 cups unbleached flour
1 rounded tap. cinnamon
4 tsp. ground coriander seed
1 rounded tsp. grated orange peel
3 tbsp. corn oil
3 tbsp. honey

Scald milk and cool; add 1/2 cup to the yeast in a cup. Sift flours and the spices into a bowl and set aside. Into a large mixing bowl, measure oil, honey and orange peel.
