For our most acutely ill patients, the Intensive/Coronary Care Unit provides continuous direct observation of patients and specialized nursing care, often on an one-to-one basis. With the latest equipment, skilled registered and liscensed practical nurses monitor patients' heart functions, respiratory status, fluid balance, blood pressure, and vital signs.
Relocated between the Medical and Surgical Units on the south wing, the Intensive/Coronary Care Unit has state-of-the-art monitoring equipment to treat heart and lung problems.
This location also includes a special dimension of care: step-down rooms. Adjacent to the Intensive/Coronary Care Unit, these patient rooms are equipped with telemetry monitoring equipment. They are used for patients who are improving but still need special care. By being close to the Intensive/Coronary Care Unit, the patients and their nurses can stay in touch until patients make the complete transition to the Medical or Surgical Floors.
