Seminar at LFCC
Dr. Martha K. Ross, project director for the book Meeting Children’s Needs in the Child Care Environment, will explain this special training program on Friday, April 10, at Lord Fairfax Community College. The meeting is sponsored by the Task Force on Childhood Education, an activity of the college’s Continuing Education Committee.
Child day care providers are required to provide regular training for their employees. Dr. Ross’ program is designed to help train providers in how to deal with the needs of children, as well as pass that training on to their staff. While the information is specific to the day care field, it is also expected to be usefid to others who work in recreation or education programs for young children. The complexities of modem society have made life more difficult for the children and their care-givers. 4
While the ideal is for children to be raised in their own home, the reality is that more Women have found it necessary to work. The 1987 State Plan for Child .Day Care re- | ported that 65 percCTit of parents surveyed,, both state-wide - and within the Lord Fairfax Planning District, feel that school-age day care services currently available are not meeting community needs. The plan concluded that many children in self-care are physically, emotionally and socially vulnerable.
