Franklin Fishback has filed for the post of supervisor from Jackson District, challenging incumbent supervisor A1 Henry for the position.

Mr. Henry was appointed to fill the vacancy created by the death of former Jackson District Supervisor J. R. Latham last December. With Mr. Fishback’s announcement, Jackson District becomes the first, and so for the only, of the county’s magisterial districts where the race for supervisor will be contested.

Mr. Fishback said his bid is motivated by his feeling that “it’s time to bring somebody new in ... we need a new voice down at this end of the county.”

He said that he has always had an inclination to seek public office, that he feels that it is a responsibility for everyone to be involved in government. “Public office is a part of American Hfe.” It was a matter of the opportunity presenting itself, he added.

As for as a platform for his campaign is concerned, Mr. Fishback said, “You’re talking about taking office a year from now. The supervisors (now in office) have a year to take care of things. It will be a whole new set of problems.

“... There’s nothing specific that I want to talk about — that I would do - except see that the people of Jackson District get fair representation. It’s the fastest growing district - I want to make sure we are heard.”

Rappahannock has to realize, he continued, that urbanization is coming this way, citing Fairfax and Fauquier countiee as examples. “I think that Rappahannock County is going to have to stop living in the 19th Gmm JOd atart living in the 20th. ■ Wtecahi ah?*y* be hvmginthrpaet - some things have to be done to come into the present.
