Located on Rt. 622 east of Rock Mills, Country Squire Antiques offers a beautiful selection of antiques and collectibles, and at no extra charge, a panorama of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Doug and Ginny Bruton, proprietors of Country Squire, have been collecting antiques for 30 years, and their shop offers a selection of the finds of their years of hunting.
“I told a friend a couple of years ago that we were going to open a shop,” Mrs. Bruton said.
“Huh,” the friend replied. “I always knew you were going to do that.”
“We hope to offer an assortment of antiques and collectibles at reasonable prices,” Mrs. Bruton said.
Mr. Bruton, recently retired from government service, has also created a variety of hand-made and painted wooden toys and ornaments — some fashioned from wood found in buildings on their property.
Mrs. Bruton, who first learned needlework as a child, has fashioned an assortment of pillows and other items as well.
Their collection includes large pieces of furniture along with small, unusual items, as well as an assortment of farm implements, both contemporary and antique.
The shop is a restored corn crib which has been remodeled to resemble a small home inside. “We didn’t want to disturb the character of the corn crib outside,” Mr. Bruton explained, “but we wanted it to be comfortable on the inside.”
