The clothes are made with an accent on roominess, so that besides allowing room to grow, there is also extra room for appliances, orthopedic braces, or other medical equipment. Adaptations can easily be made for IV tubes or other specialized devices.
In the past, children (and adults) with special needs have had to have “off the rack” clothes adapted for their requirements, which usually means expensive tailoring, Mrs. Shrader said. “I thought, ‘Why not do it from the beginning instead of altering existing garments?’ My clothes are not expensive, and you don’t have to pay for alterations.”
Mrs. Shrader’s offering .began with a sweater, and has progressed to include a layette set and a onepiece warmup suit which has velcro closures running the full length of the garment.
“I’m not sure how the idea for the business evolved,” Mrs. Shrader said. She has crocheted as a hobby since she was a child, “and I suprised myself when I realized that I could make things other than squares.”
