Beverages containing caffeine, such as cola, coffee, or tea, can increase nervous tension; they also act as a diuretic. Alcoholic beverages should be avoided because they also dehydrate the body.

The real key to top performance, as far as food is concerned, is not what’s eaten or drunk right before

the competition, but what is consumed during the previous weeks and months.
