The Washington Baptist Church is having their annual Spring Event April 18. There will be plate lunches for sale, barbecued chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, baked beans, baked goods and drinks.

There will also be plants and things from Grandma’s Attic. “Come and take your pick of things you want to buy,” said a church spokesperson.

Tutor training session planned

Donate your time to help others read. The Culpeper Litaracy organization is sponsoring a tutor training session on Wednesday, April 15, from 7-9 p.m. at St. Stephen’s Church parish hall. Participants must register before April 13. Pre-registration forms may be obtained by calling 825-8786 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. or 547-2700 between 6-9 p.m.

Ms. Buxton at Library

The Rappahannock County Library’s Second Friday Series presents Sarah Wallace Buxton, noted actress, director and teacher, as its April speaker. Mx. Buxton will discuss the future of theatre in America on Friday, April 10, at 8 p.m. at the Library on Gay Street in Washington. Thd program, sponsored by the Friends of the Library,' is free and the public is invited to attend.

Fodderstack 10KM

The annual Fodderstack 10KM classic race will be held on Saturday, April 18, at 10 a.m. The race begins in Flint Hill on Route 522 and ends at the courthouse in Washington, via the Fodderstack Road.

Any individual, business, or organization wishing to sponsor a trophy for the Fodderstack 10K Race may do so by mailing a check for $20 to Rappahannock Recreational Authority, P.O. Box 145, Sperryville, Va. 22740. If you desire to sponsor a specific category, please indicate the age group.

Beauty pageant planned

The annual beauty pageant sponsored by the Sperryville Rescue Squad will be held on Saturday, April 25, at 7 p.m. at the Rappahannock Elementary School. Girls between the ages of two and high school seniors and boys between three and six are urged to participate. Rehearsal is set for Friday evening, April 24, at 6:30 at the school. 4Top Gun’

The movie Top Gun will be playing at the Gay Street Theatre on Saturday and Sunday, April 11 and 12, at 7:30 p.m. The movie stars Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis. Its huge box office success has inspired half the 17 to 22-year-old male population to apply to the armed forces academies - an outcome that the U. S. Navy foresaw, and thereby provided the filmmakers with all the genuine stuff and genuine advice they needed. The movie does have heartthrob Tom Cruise (Risky Business) and the lovely Kelly McGillis (Witness).
