Krystal Shrader designs and crochets clothes for premature infants and young children with special needs. The birth of a “physically challenged” child, Mrs. Shrader said, can be a difficult experience for the parents. It’s possible that many of their dreams may go up in smoke.
Those dreams usually include the baby clothes in which most parents look forward to dressing the newest member of the family. Mrs. Shrader hopes that, through her business, that dream need not be dashed.
“The parents are looking not only for clothes, but also for assurances that their child is like others.” Dressing the infant in attractive baby clothes can help to provide that assurance.
Unfortunately, most of the infant clothing on the market, although attractive, is difficult for children with special needs to wear. Buttons and zippers can be difficult for these children to be gotten in and out of, and often the clothes fit too tightly to be practical.
“My principal focus is on ease of access,” Mrs. Shrader explained. She said that her clothes are easily adaptable, to open from front, back or sides. All closures are velcro, so they open and close quickly and eas
