Homecoming weekend was full of tradition at Rappahannock County High School.
There was the Friday evening bonfire and pep rally, the crowning of the Homecoming Queen, and the Homecoming dance on Saturday night. And there was the traditional soccer game with cross-county rival Wakefield School.
Despite the outcome of the soccer game, a 2-0 loss to the visiting Owls, the weekend was successful and enjoyed by the students, according to its sponsors.
The school’s National Honor Society chapter organizes the annual event, and this year its president, Jan Herman, was crowned as the school’s Homecoming Queen.
Miss Herman, a senior, was elected by the students, and crowned by last year’s queen, Amy Noakes. The ceremony took place at halftime during the soccer game.
The queen’s court, also selected by the students, represented each grade at the high school. Each girl was escorted by a member of the soccer team selected by Coach Mike Tupper.
Representing the eighth grade was Emmy Bailey, escorted by Paul Brown. From the ninth grade was Leah Marlett, escorted by Joe Dunagan. The tenth grade representative was Lori Paratore, escorted by Patrick O’Meara. From the eleventh grade was Angela Pullen, whose escort was Jason Henry. And the senior class was represented by Carolyn Lee, who was escorted by soccer team co-captain Chris Stringfellow.
