trouble spots, and after consulting with the School Board announced that school would begin two hours late. But, when the National Weather Service extended its flash flood warning from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., Dr. Gangel reconsidered and school was cancelled for the day.
“This is a whole new experience for me,” the superintendent said as he surveyed the flooded roadways at Rock Mills. “On the Eastern Shore, we had high water when a hurricane came through, but nothing like this.”
Virginia Department of Transportation maintenance supervisor Ron Marshall said the latest round of high water had set his crews back somewhat in their clean-up effort, but reported that by Tuesday afternoon the crews were back to their repair tasks.
