“The design of the system is the latest technology,” Mr. Price said. He explained that since the proposed system will be an extension of the company’s existing system in Warren County, “sharing office space and maintenance staff with the Front Royal office affords economies of scale.
“We can service the area with an extension of the existing system. Another system would be a stand alone. We have in place most of the things necessary to extend the system out this way.”
Mr. Burke said the company has found that the average subscriber pays approximately $22 in cable services each month. That figure, he added, includes premium channels (like Home Box Office) in addition to the basic channel selection.
He said that the rate for Rappahannock County subscribers will probably be $1 or $1.50 higher than for Warren County residents due to the lower population.
Council member Susan Parrish asked if the system could serve the county’s schools.
“We will talk,” Mr. McCarthy added, “at the franchise negotiations about some free drops. I don’t know how far we will get with that.”
