Washington’s Town Council approved a cable television ordinance for the town, opening the door for Adelphia Cable Communications Inc. to begin negotiations to serve the county with cable television.
The council approved an ordinance patterned on the one already approved by the county’s Board of Supervisors, and also authorized Town Attorney Frank Reynolds to join County Administrator John McCarthy and County Attorney Peter Luke in negotiating a franchise with Adelphia.
Mr. McCarthy noted that Adelphia was the only company to respond to the county’s advertised request for proposals for service. He told the council that three companies initially expressed interest, but two dropped out after discovering the average density of houses per mile in the proposed service area is below their minimum.
Several members of the council questioned Adelphia’s representatives, Richard Burke and Joe Price, About rates, service and how the Astern compares with other cable companies.
