Coarse materials such as corn stalks, or evergreen branches may be used as mulch on chrysanthemums. In the colder parts of the state a better procedure than using mulch on chrysanthemums is to cut the tops back to about three inches long, dig the plants, and place them in pots or flats in a cold frame until growth starts in the spring.
Cuttings or divisions can be taken from these plants which will make vigorous growth next summer. Such plants usually will produce better flowers than the older plants.
