“It really does take two of us,” Mrs. Wood said. “I can’t imagine home schooling with one parent not wanting it.”
In order for her children to have opportunities to interact with other children, Britton and Sam are involved in youth soccer. They are also in Sunday school and Scouting. She thinks for now that is enough.
“It’s so artificial to be with 26 other kids the same age for six hours a day,” she said. “It certainly creates a large market for clothing sales and toy sales,” she added.
Mrs. Wood said she is glad to hear that more time in public school is being spent with children in different grades working together. “That’s wonderful; that’s real life,” she said.
,Each spring the boys go to school to participate in the standardized testing. They must score above the 40th percentile to continue in home schooling. At the end of first grade Britton tested at the fifth grade level in reading comprehension. He has continued to make progress.
