Now she is in second grade and a younger sister is a kindergartener. Both are being taught at home. Meanwhile the older daughter has continued at the elementary school. She is happy at school now and doing well.
Mrs. Mullen is using math workbooks and the Oak Meadows series for home instruction. This series follows the Waldorf education method, emphasizing practical skills with younger children and delaying academics until the child is seven. Mrs. Mullen said her second grader is probably reading on an advanced first grade level, but she loves math and is on a third-grade level in mathematics.
She finds she can complete the girls’ lessons in a few hours in the mornings and they have the rest of the day for other activities. They do lots of arts and crafts activities, weaving and baking. “It’s really fun; I am enjoying it,” she said.
