’To the Editor: - This newspaper’s Oct. 3 editorial -entitled “Growth Issues” carries a ♦ clear prophecy of what’s ahead of us k Rappahannockans in the next de£cade. The editorial quotes some facts "and figures from a report by the ♦ General Assembly’s Commission on ^Population Growth and Development.
£ The document predicts a 41 per-cent population growth for our state "•in the next few years with a probar-ble doubling of Fauquier’s population and at least a 24 percent l increase for our snug little Rappar hannock County. This means an inevitable ensuing massive spillover of .""big-city type problems that can en♦ gulf us in a morass of urban sprawl, i£pollution, highway construction and ► automobile traffic, power shortages, tiigher taxes, crime, and a sad loss of Our present “neighborliness” ambiance—and probably more. » To have any real chance of protecting our Rappahannock “heritage,” it is imperative that we voters '.carefully consider all of the qualifications of those running for legislative positions in Richmond and Washington. It is threatening to our treasured Rappahannock way of life to automatically vote for one candidate or the other because of being “a nice person” or because we are being instructed to do so by party leaders.
