There is a full complement of Colonial Dancers, and they are rehearsing regularly. An added feature to this year’s colonial dance program will be the live music, accompanied by “Toots and Homs,” a local ensemble that will perform various Baroque music pieces.
In addition to the dancers, the Town Hall will be the location for Santa’s Bakeshop, sponsored by the Rappahannock Elementary PTO Saturday and by The Inn at Little Washington Sunday. Hot and cold drinks, along with Santa’s traditional goodies, will be available for purchase and consumption while revelers rest their weary feet and ' w'atch the dancers entertain.
The Washington Volunteer Fire Department has announced it will be serving a traditional Christmas dinner on Saturday of Colonial Christmas weekend. Other culinary choices are also available, notably the traditional Brunswick stew featured by the Country Cafe both days.
The enhance the Christmas look of Washington during the Colonial Christmas weekend, the merchants of Washington will be sponsoring a home-decoration contest. A prize will be awarded to the house most attractively decorated with natural materials. The prestigious threemember jury consists of Pauline Bruce, Christine Johnson and Patrick O’Connell. Only private residences will qualify, so start making plans for your decorations.
Events planned in Washington that weekend include: tours of the town (including candlelight tours after 5 p.m.), craft demonstrations, a children’s bazaar, dancers, strolling carollers, a bonfire, open houses at the town’s B&Bs, “A Dickens of a Christmas” put on by Interact Theatre Company, and tree and WTeath sales.
