This time Republicans are saying that Virginia is being run into the financial ground. And every time they tell the story, the elephant's trunk gets longer.

These are the facts. Virginia can't have a budget deficit, because our Constitution won't allow it. But even before that, Democrats led the fight to make certain the General Assembly never spent more than it took in.

Then, it was called pay-as-you-go. Now, it's called a common-sense approach to keep Virginia's financial house in order. Democratic leadership made it happen, and has also given us a $72 million budget surplus and a $200 million rainy day fund.
