At dinner one night, the cooks overheard several guests who worried they would oversleep the next morning and miss their 6:30 a.m. breakfast. “What campsite are you in?” one asked. “I’ll be happy to come by and check on you.” Sure enough, before dawn the next morning she stopped by to make sure everyone was awake.
The food is also worth making a reservation for. Lunch is provided on the river, and breakfast and dinner are available at an additional charge. Beside the obvious advantage of being only a short stagger on river-weary legs from the campsite, the food is delicious, and there’s plenty of it.
For adventurers looking for a thrill-filled weekend, one trip down the Gauley will probably not be enough. It’s a different challenge each time, which keeps many whitewater rafters coming back for more.
