The county Planning Commission again voted to recommend that an application for a new post office for Amissville be denied.
Tom Moore had applied for a special use permit to have a new post office constructed on a lot he owns on v the east side of Route 639 and the south side of U.S. 211. The site is approximately one mile from the current post office near the Culpeper County line. Mr. Moore had offered to give the land to E. L. Rieley, who would build the building and lease it to the Postal Service.
County Administrator John McCarthy asked Mr. Moore what he would gain by giving the land away. Mr. Moore said he would hope in the future to have other land he owns around the site rezoned to commercial.
Mr. McCarthy noted that during the last rezoning in the area for land owned by Emiel and Lynda Smet the planners had agreed that Route 630 would be the eastern boundary of Amissville.
