Welcome

endorsements

To the Editor:

Your endorsements last week of Kay Slaughter, Margaret Haynes, Thomas Michie and Jerry Wood were particularly welcome. Not only are these four candidates well qualified, and the best choices one can make, they are the candidates who can serve us best in Richmond and Washington.

It is no secret that rural areas in Virginia are losing “clout” as the population of the state shifts to urban and suburban centers. It is also no secret that the Virginia legislature has been, and will continue to be, dominated by Democrats. If Rappahannock County is to maintain any influence at all in Richmond, it will be from those Democratic representatives.

When you hear candidates from the other party tell of their accomplishments in Richmond, remember that, unless they had support from a lyge number of Democrats in Richmond, they wouldn’t have gotten anything done. If we want something for Rapphannock County done in Richmond, we had better send someone to Richmond who can get it done; we had better send a Democrat.
