The Board of Supervisors, following a public hearing, adopted an amended land-use taxation ordinance that removes “open space” as a category of land qualifying for land-use taxation.
Representatives of the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection and the Piedmont Environmental Council argued forcefully for keeping the open space category, perhaps only for land on which the owner had deeded a permanent scenic easement.
Although the old county ordinance allowed the open space category, all the land in the land Use taxation program had qualified as agricultural, horticultural or forest land.
