In 1980 candidate George Bush criticized candidate Reagan for his Voodoo economics and he was right. John Anderson was even more right when he said Reagan promises could only be accomplished with mirrors, that a tax cut was not justified until the budget was in balance, and he advocated a 50 cent tax on gasoline. Even with such a tax, the cost of fuel in this country would still be a bargain compared to anywhere else in the world. In short the nation has endured 12 years of political hokum of borrow and spend.
