“You’ve got to take care of your kids,” he said. He added that when he works the shift that starts at midnight, he frequently stops cars of kids out drinking and driving at 3 a.m.
“Parents have got to be more observant,” he said adding that “There is an incredible amount of alcohol at field parties. When we find out about them, we try to do something, but we can’t be every solution. There is one deputy and one state trooper on duty for 274 square miles.”
Capt. Brown noted that when he talks to students as part of the DARE program he finds that very few have any chores to do at home.
