We were passing through Glascow on the way to Inverness when we accidentally got off the main road.

Try as we could we were unable to get back on this through-way so we stopped at a pub. Incidentally you can always find a pub. We could actually see the road we wanted to get on from the parking lot at the pub. We entered and Rosie went to telephone a future relative (she was seeking her roots) while I approached the bar to get instructions.

They do not speak English in Glascow. They understand English perfectly, they do not speak it. I tried, with map and pointer to get instructions on how to get on this road, to no avail. I took the man outside and pointed to the road and he could not tell me in English how to get there.

When Rosie returned I handed her the map and said, “You are the navigator, you find out from this man how to get back on the road to Inverness.” I watched from a distance while she pointed and talked and he pointed and talked and she nodded and pointed.

She turned to me and said, “Lets go.” We went outside and I asked, “What did he say?”

She said calmly, “I have absolutely no idea.”
