4-H livestock projects, shows, sales, educational events and judging teams are extremely important educational activities for a growing number of Virginia youngsters. These activities allow them to truly “Learn to do by doing.”
4-H livestock involvement teaches youngsters Jjfe skills that produce desirable leadership qualities tpy. Funds to support these important learning activities are extremely important at both the state and county level.
The Virginia 4-H Livestock Endowment Fund has been established through the Virginia 4-H Foundation. The Endowment Fund was started in 1992 with a goal of $200,000. To date, some $60,000 has been raisMd through private donations.
The Cows for Kids Project allows cattle produces throughout Virginia to help in this important task. The project is a program of the Virginia 4-H Foundation in partnership with the Virginia Cattlemen’s and the Virginia Livestock Markets Associations.
The proceeds will be put in the Virginia 4-H Foundation. Two-thirds will be credited to the Virginia 4-H Livestock Endowment Fund and one-third will be sent back to your county to support local 4-H livestock programs. •
BCIA members are being asked to donate the proceeds of a cull cow this FaJJ in October, November"or December to support 4-if Livestock projects, shows, sales, educational events, and judging teams.
To participate, farmers should obtain a 4-H Cows for Kids Project Donor Agreement form from the Rappahannock Extension Office.
