Last month when the supervisors took up County Administrator John McCarthy’s suggestion that the registrar be moved to the room in the Commissioner of Revenue’s office, they had a letter from the elections board saying that space would not be suitable for the registrar. The supervisors then voted to move the magistrate’s office to that space, and then heard a strong objection from Chief Magistrate Fran Eldred. The supervisors then voted to take back their earlier action and table the matter until this month.
Sheriff Woodward added that he would probably be required to increase security in the courthouse. He said he might need to install a metal detector and to clear the courthouse of everybody not there for court business.
The supervisors went into executive session to discuss “the acquisition of reaf estate.”
Following that session they announced, “The board is looking into the potential acquisition of real property and moving the magistrate and registrar to the new property. The real estate has not been acquired, and the matter is tabled until next month.”
In other matters the Board of Supervisors:
• Voted to contract with Community Trash to operate the landfill and continue to haul trash from dumpster sites at Scrabble and Huntly foi another year for $200,000.
